FlexmiR™ Select Introduction

Application-specific assays are common across all areas of molecular research studies. Extensive expression studies have repeatedly shown that microRNA (miRNA) expression is specific to various experimental systems including tissues and cellular pathways. Previously, the identification of these miRNA signatures has been conducted on a global scale resulting in data overload. FlexmiR Select allows researchers to custom-design their own miRNA assays for a more efficient approach to miRNA analysis.

Luminex has combined its xMAP® multiplex technology with Exiqon’s Locked Nucleic Acid (LNA™) probe design to offer a flexible platform that allows researchers to select specific targets of interest. This liquid bead array allows researchers to test multiple miRNAs in a single well, increasing efficiency and reducing experimental variability.

Tissue-specific Screens
Early miRNA studies focused on the identification of tissue-specific miRNA expression patterns and profiles. Many researchers limit their investigation to a particular tissue-type and are interested in only those miRNAs expressed in their tissue of choice. With FlexmiR Select, researchers can investigate a panel of miRNAs that is biologically relevant to a given tissue-type.

Pathway-specific Screens
Recent publications have shown that miRNAs regulate the expression of genes involved in regulatory pathways such as apoptosis, cellular signaling, proliferation, and immune response to name a few. FlexmiR Select allows you to create an assay that is specific to your research of interest and eliminate the need to analyze irrelevant miRNAs.

Target Validation
Target validation screens are typically comprised of two parts: a broad panel screen, followed by further analysis of a subset of miRNAs specific to your study. The broad panel screen is used to identify a subset of miRNAs that are biologically relevant to your study. This limited subset of miRNAs typically consists of less than 50 miRNAs and is used to analyze larger numbers of samples to further investigate or validate potential miRNA markers. FlexmiR is the only miRNA platform designed to investigate both large and small scale screens.

Direct enzymatic labeling of total RNA eliminates the need to amplify or enrich the miRNA population, ensuring true biological representation of the sample. The entire FlexmiR workflow delivers results in 4-5 hours. And with FlexmiR Select, researchers only need to analyze miRNAs relevant to their study.
