Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer
Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the applied research of optical and mechanical systems to be used for multiplex fluorescence detection. The candidate should be an expert in sequential and non-sequential Ray Trace programs (Zemax, Code V, Oslo, TracePro, ASAP, Light Tools) to facilitate the rapid development of fluidic, mechanical, and optical components for proof of principle and prototype multiplex analyte detection systems. The senior level candidate should have a minimum of five years experience developing opto-mechanical systems in an R&D environment.
Duties/Responsibilities of Position:
- Management of optical designs for prototype multiplex analyte detectors
- Research and design of high resolution optical imaging and illumination systems
- Rapid development of fluidic, mechanical, and optical components to support multiplex analyte detector prototyping
- Modeling, testing, and analysis of optical and mechanical system performance
- Building and testing prototypes of opto-mechanical designs in laboratory environment
- Interface and work effectively with multiple interdisciplinary departments
Experience/Education Required/Desired:

BS in Optics and/or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

MS in Optics, or 5 years experience as Optical Engineer
- 5+ years optical and mechanical design in an R&D environment
- 5+ years of experience with sequential Ray Trace program (Zemax, Code V, Oslo, etc.) and non-sequential ray trace program (Trace Pro, ASAP, Zemax, Light Tools, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience in lens metrology (MTF testing, measuring distortion, etc.), and radiometry; measuring LED luminance, system irradiance, source exitance, etc.
- Experience designing both illumination and imaging optics; including tolerance analysis
- Experience designing Opto-Mechanical systems with CAD modeling package (SolidWorks, AutoCad, ProEngineer, etc.)
- Taken concept through production of an Imaging and/or illumination Optic Design
- Experience with sensor technologies (CCD, CMOS, PMTs, APDs, etc.)
- Experience with solid state light emitting devices (LEDs, Lasers, etc.)
- Experience conceiving and conducting laboratory experiments to quantify the effectiveness of imaging and illumination systems
- Strong analytical and communication skills
