MagPlex® Microspheres

Similar to MicroPlex® Microspheres, MagPlex Microspheres are carboxylated polystyrene micro-particles, or “beads,” that have been dyed into spectrally distinct sets, or “regions”; allowing them to be individually identified by an xMAP® Instrument. These uniquely coded beads provide a user an addressable substrate on which to perform multiple bio-analytical reactions in a single well.

All microspheres are general use components for further manufacture of xMAP bioassays.

MagPlex Microspheres are available at a concentration of 2.5 million and 12.5 million beads/mL and can be ordered in 1mL and 4mL vial sizes.  MagPlex Microspheres are also offered in a variety of custome volumes.  Please see the MagPlex Custom Volume Ordering Guidelines or contact Luminex to inquire about custom volume options.

IMPORTANT: MagPlex microspheres require the use of xPONENT® software.

Overview

There are several advantages to MagPlex Microspheres over traditional MicroPlex Microspheres.

Since MagPlex Microspheres are magnetic, this allows them to be separated from solution quickly and easily with the use of a magnetic separator; improving percent recovery during handling and wash steps, and facilitating assay automation.

Additionally, MagPlex Microspheres are available in 500 unique regions, enabling the development of assays which can measure up to 500 different analytes in the same well.

Another, advantage of these beads is their universal compatibility with all xMAP Instruments. MagPlex Microspheres open the door to Luminex’s latest instrument, MAGPIX®. Designed as a simple and easy to use instrument, with a smaller foot print, MAGPIX is also the most economical multiplex instrument on the market.

Specifications

MagPlex Microspheres are provided in purified water containing <0.1% w/v ProClin® as a preservative. Product specifications are assured up to the expiration date stated on the label with proper handling and storage. The expiration date is intended to be the latest date at which the material should be used in further manufacture of bioassays. Although continued conformance to specifications is expected subsequent to further manufacture of the microspheres, users must characterize and control their formulations to assure assay specific performance.

Storage

Store product upright at 2-8ºC dark. Avoid freezing. Avoid exposure to heat >55ºC for durations greater than 24 hours.

Reagent Shipping Policy
All MagPlex Microsphere orders, 1 & 4 ml volumes, will usually ship within 3 business days of order receipt.  However, back ordered items may have longer than normal lead times.  Group A and Group B regions have a guaranteed minimum shelf life of 6 month from the date of shipment and Group C regions have a guaranteed minimum shelf life of 3 month from the shipment date.  Please see the MagPlex Instrument Compatibility Guidelines for more information on region grouping.

Part Numbers

To ensure maximum compatibility and availability, new assay developers should always begin with the Group A regions; moving into Group B then Group C regions only when necessary for higher-plex assays.

Group C regions are only available in 1mL vial sizes.
