MagPlex® Microspheres
Overview MagPlex Microspheres are superparamagnetic microspheres for general laboratory use and may be used with other reagents to develop xMAP® Technology assays. They are internally labeled with fluorescent dyes and contain surface Carboxyl groups for covalent attachment of ligands (or biomolecules). Concentration: 1.25 x 107 microspheres/mL. Instrument Compatibility for MagPlex Microspheres MagPlex microspheres have different spectral characteristics than traditional MicroPlex microspheres. For this reason it is important to ensure that the microspheres you order are compatible with the instrument you intend to use. MagPlex microspheres come in 500 different colors or “regions.” The region identification is denoted by a number from 1 to 500 and is represented by the last three digits of the part number; before the dash. (i.e. Region #12 = MC10012-01) MagPlex microsphere regions are grouped together by the instruments with which they are compatible. “Group A” regions are the 50 regions compatible with all xMAP systems. ( MAGPIX, Luminex 100/200, and FLEXMAP 3D) “Group B” regions are 30 additional regions which are only compatible with the Luminex 100/200 and FLEXMAP 3D systems. “Group C” regions are 420 additional regions which are only compatible with the FLEXMAP 3D system. Group A regions tend to be more readily available than B or C regions. Additionally, Group A and B regions are the only regions that can be purchased in the larger 4mL vial size. (4mL vial sizes are denoted by a “-04” at the end of the part number, instead of “-01.”) IMPORTANT: Group C regions under 100 have part numbers beginning with “MC12…” Group C regions over 100 follow the standard “MC10…” numbering scheme. To ensure maximum compatibility and availability, new assay developers should always begin with the Group A regions; moving into Group B then C regions only when necessary for higher-plex assays.
